Our Intermediate

Maraetai Beach school is a full primary and caters for year 7 and 8 students.  We provide a seamless transition moving from primary into the intermediate school.

Students are offered an extensive range of technology, cultural, sporting, music and arts opportunities and environmental experiences that support their academic, social and emotional development. Our Year 7 and 8 students are confident, connected, successful learners. They are the leaders in our school and have pride in their school community.

Successful Transition to College

What are we doing to ensure MBS students have a successful transition to College?

  • On-going communication between local colleges and Maraetai Beach School

  • Our Deputy Principal meets with Howick College on a regular basis

  • We survey our Year 9 Howick College students who attended Maraetai Beach School to find out how we can improve our transition programme

  • Howick College visits Maraetai Beach School each year

  • We are investigating future visits for Year 8 students to Howick College

  • We are involved in a Community of Learning with Howick College

Intermediate Highlights

Leadership

Year 7 and 8s have a range of leadership opportunities. Both Year groups can be part of the MBS leadership Awards, working towards Gold, Silver or Bronze. Year 8s also have the opportunity to become House Leaders which involves running House Events, developing house spirit across the school and being role models across the school and community.

Coaching

Our Year 7 and 8 students have the opportunity to become a student coach. This is a great experience for our students as they learn to set goals, and have future focussed conversations. Coaching creates a common approach to working together on activities and solving problems and great questions and listening encourages students to work together. This provides opportunities to learn from each other and develop the skills of collaboration and knowledge sharing.
