Online Learning Programmes
At Maraetai Beach School we use a number of online learning tools to support the curriculum, especially in Maths and English. These tools are designed to be used at home as well as at school.
Maths
In years 3-6 mathematics is supported through the Mathletics website. This tool engages students and enables teachers to carefully monitor each child’s progress, identifying strengths and areas that need more teaching. The programme is made up of assigned tasks, games, live competitions with students around the world and free printable workbooks.
Literacy
In years 1-2 Literacy is supported through the Starfall programme. Starfall activities are research-based and its emphasis on phonemic awareness and high frequency words. Starfall is untimed and made up of interactive games that allow children to see, hear, and touch as they learn.
In Years 7-8 children use Education Perfect. Current membership allows students to be assigned and access taks, games and assessments across the school curriculum including mathematics, Literacy, Languages, Science, Social Studies. Like Mathletics, it allows teachers to monitor student progress and assign tasks accordingly.
Sunshine Online
Sunshine Online is a literacy based website used in primary school literacy programmes across New Zealand. It has been designed to help children aged 4 to 10+ to learn to read and develop the skills needed for continuing reading independence and success. Sunshine Online features over 560 e-books (most of them animated) along with 1000 fun, interactive activities and games.
At Maraetai Beach School, teachers use Sunshine Online in their class, as a powerful learning resource, for students to learn to read, and develop reading comprehension skills.
At home, we encourage our parents/caregivers to make use of our shared school account, to provide their child/ren with added reading practice, along with regular reading for home learning.

Sunshine Classics
At Maraetai Beach School, teachers use Sunshine Classics in their class Reading programme to allocate level specific books, and follow up activities to their students.
Students have individual accounts. Login details are available from classroom teacher.
