Maraetai Beach school is a full primary and caters for year 7 and 8 students.  We provide a seamless transition moving from primary into the intermediate school.  Students are offered an extensive range of technology, cultural, sporting, music and arts opportunities and environmental experiences that support their academic, social and emotional development. Our Year 7 and 8 students are confident, connected, successful learners. They are the leaders in our school and have pride in their school community.

Successful Transition to College

What are we doing to ensure MBS students have a successful transition to College?

  • On-going communication between local colleges and Maraetai Beach School
  • Our Deputy Principal meets with Howick College on a regular basis
  • We survey our Year 9 Howick College students who attended Maraetai Beach School to find out how we can improve our transition programme
  • Howick College visits Maraetai Beach School each year
  • We are investigating future visits for Year 8 students to Howick College
  • We are involved in a Community of Learning with Howick College

Student Quotes

"I think Maraetai did well preparing me for Howick College”

“I would like to say thank-you for such a great primary and intermediate experience. Maraetai Beach was so much fun”

“Overall MBS really gave me an idea on what Howick was going to be like so I was prepared and excited”

Intermediate Highlights:

Leadership:

Year 8’s have the opportunity of becoming a house, tech or sports captain. These roles come with opportunities to run house and sports events, organise house points and choice choice awards, lead assemblies and be the role models for our school.

Coaching:

Our Year 7 and 8 students have the opportunity to become a student coach. This is a great experience for our students as they learn to set goals, and have future focussed conversations. Coaching creates a common approach to working together on activities and solving problems and great questions and listening encourages students to work together. This provides opportunities to learn from each other and develop the skills of collaboration and knowledge sharing.

2019 Discovering China Trip

It is important to us at Maraetai Beach School to recognise and learn about different cultures and countries.  Our interactions with students that visit us are supported by our own adventures.  In 2019, a group of our Intermediate students were lucky enough to be able to visit China.  Here is a short video of the wonderful experience they had.
